Skagway and Glacier Bay

We were up early on Thursday 18th August as we were headed to the Yukon on a bus and then on a train back to Skagway. It was a bit drizzly today which made the scenery a bit misty. Can't imagine how the people searching for gold here in the 1800s managed it all. It is such difficult terrain. We went a long way into Canada and visited a place called Carcross. We had lunch there and there was an interesting museum and also some live animals to visit. They also had dog mushing rides which were fun to watch.

We then headed back to Skagway by train.
On Friday we sailed into Glacier Bay which was amazing.

On Saturday, we had a restful day at sea and then had to be up early on Sunday when we arrived in Seward to catch the train to Anchorage.

Ketchikan and Juneau

We were so fortunate with the weather in both Ketchikan and Juneau. In Ketchikan we had a wander around and then went on a floatplane exursion which was amazing. It was a tiny plane!!!

In Juneau, on Wednesday, we went to the Mendenhall Glacier. We walked over to the waterfall which was beautiful.

In the afternoon we went on the tramway to check out the view.

Vancouver

I have finally found time to post about the last few weeks beginning with our few days in Vancouver. After a very long day of travel (bus to Sydney, flight to San Francisco, flight to Vancouver and quite a few hours of waiting around) we ended up in Vancouver. We were staying in North Vancouver so we added a ferry ride and a very long walk up a long hill to the end of the day! It was such a relief to arrive at our airbnb. It was a 100 year old house which was lovely. On Friday we headed into town to do a walking tour of the city centre.

We also did a walking tour in the afternoon at Granville Island which was very good.

These gorgeous needle felted toys were so cute!

People don't live on Granville Island but these people have built homes that are floating next to the Island.
The weather was so warm and lovely and so many people and vessels were on the water.
In the evening they had lots of food stalls and live music on the wharf at North Vancouver. There was a lovely atmosphere with lots of people enjoying the warm weather.
On Saturday, there was a great big water slide on our side of town and it was fun to watch the kids and adults sliding a long way!

We headed to Yaletown, which had once been industrial and is now a lovely place to live with lots of restaurants. We had a delicious brunch here.

We then caught this cute little ferry to Granville Island once again, just for the fun of the ride.

Later that day we had a wander in Gastown, which is the oldest, historical part of Vancouver.
We then has to head home to pack and be ready to get on our cruise ship to Alaska on Sunday.
