WW1 sights

In the afternoon on Friday 23rd June, we visited the Sir John Monash Centre. It was very sad and moving but an amazing memorial.

We then went to our hotel and had dinner at the lovely restaurant. We ended up going twice as it was very good. The next day, 24th June, we went and looked at the Somme river. We also visited Villers-Bretonneaux and the Victoria school. We also went to Corbie, Le Hamel, Peronne and Albert. At Peronne there was a very good museum of WW1.

On Sunday, 25th June, we visited the Beaumont-Hamel Newfoundland Memorial which was amazing and sad too. We did a guided tour of the trenches and the battles.

We had a nice lunch in a remote retaurant and then had to find dinner later that day. Being a Sunday hardly anything was open!!! Finally found a small supermarket and had bread and cheese.

Dijon

Today, Thursday 22 June, we headed into the old town and Bruce climbed the Tower of the Duc's palace and I enjoyed morning tea at Maison Milliere. It was very nice to sit in the little courtyard behind the lovely old house.

We then visited the Eglise Notra Dame which was lovely.

We also visited the Musee de Beaux-arts. It is a wonderful building that houses some amazing art.

We had a delicious plat du jour for lunch and then returned to our room to pack up and move to an airconditioned one!!! It has been very hot.
The next day was very hectic. Up early to catch the 7.26 train to Paris, then a hectic trip on the metro with many stairs to get to the Gare du Nord! We missed our train but thankfully there was another an hour later. We arrived in Amiens and found our car eventually and headed to Corbie for lunch.

Nimes and Dijon

On Tuesday, 20th June, we packed up and left our gorgeous apartment in Uzes and caught the local bus to Nimes. We left our luggage (paid a fair bit and they were stored in the back of a Tabac shop) and checked out Nimes. We  saw the old town, the amphitheatre, the Quai de la Fontaine, the markets and the gardens.

Our train was delayed so we spent some time waiting on the platform. We finally arrived in Dijon and found our (ordinary) accommodation. Had dinner and an early night. On Wednesday we visited the old town in Dijon which is just lovely. We hoped to have dinner in the Maison Milliere, where we dined about 10 years ago, but it isn't a restaurant anymore.

In the afternoon we took the train to Nuit-Saint-Georges. It was very hot and the town was quite a way from the station! Still we found some lunch and had a wander around before returning to Dijon.
