Canterbury and Dover

This is where we are at the moment as we catch up on the emails and the blogging. We have had a couple of lovely days.

On Wednesday we headed back into Canterbury and went on a human powered river tour. It was very scenic and we learnt lots of history again. Here we are coming through one of the low bridges.

We then headed to Dover and visited Dover castle. It was fascinating. Here is one of the war rooms in the secret war tunnels used in WW II.

We did heaps of walking.

Some of the rooms in the castle had been decorated as they would have been in Henry II's time. I didn't realise how colourful it would have been.

The Royal School of Needlework stitched all the embroidered cushions.

More Canterbury

We decided to head into town again today to check the net and blog. Must book places with internet in the future as we do miss it. Bruce has blogged today so check our other blog. It says I wrote it but Bruce did.

Bruce has managed to get a nasty cold and we made a visit to the doctor for antibiotics. Very impressed with the NHS as the visit was FREE! We are heading to Dover today. Yesterday we had a quiet day and just visited Whitstable on the coast and had afternoon tea. Here are a few more pictures of Canterbury.

Here we are in Canterbury

So lovely to be able to blog at last. We are in a Pret restaurant in Canterbury with free wifi. We are having a lovely day here and have been on a walking tour this morning. Getting here wasn't so good. We firstly, couldn't get the car we had ordered and then were so late to our cottage that it was hard to find and the hosts weren't answering the phone! It was very late. We had to try to sleep in the car! Not good.
The next day was better and here is the cottage. We visited a lovely village called Chilham yesterday and enjoyed a yummy roast lunch in the pub! The afternoon was spent dozing as we were very jetlagged.

We have just been on a walking tour of Canterbury and it was very good. Such an interesting city with so much to see.

The quilt show

I should be doing all sorts of things but couldn't resist sharing some views of the quilts at the craft show here in Canberra this morning. We head off this afternoon on our holiday so I don't know when I'll get to blog so I'm doing 2 today! Check out Helen Godden's lovely quilts.

Beautiful scarf and Wednesday show and tell

I was told not to blog this but couldn't resist. Paddy gave the scarf she made to her dear friend Donna and they didn't want to smile for me! Isn't the scarf gorgeous? Beautiful work Paddy.

This is Paddy's little humbug she has finished.

Karen came to class for the first time and was working on this lovely embroidery.

In the evening it was lovely to see the quilt Mary has had quilted. Looks great. We had to admire the beautiful backing as well.

Sheila's special projects

It was so good to see all the stitching the Tuesday girls are doing. Sheila has finished so many lovely projects. These special quilts are for her twin grand daughters due to be born soon. Aren't they so perfect for 2 little girls?

Sheila has also finished her quilt top featuring beautifully coloured birds.

The most special piece is Sheila's carpet of flowers which she has had framed recently. This photo doesn't do the colours justice. There isn't one piece of fabric showing as every bit is covered with beautifully stitched flowers. Well done, Sheila.

A little stitching and some packing

I should be getting ready for work but thought I had best post a quick blog. I have been doing a little stitching and managed to do another little stitchery for my Gardener's journal quilt.

I also finished this little stitchery from last year's stitching day at Glenharrow.

But.... this is what has been keeping me busy. Packing to go away on Thursday. I am excited and will be so glad when my long list of "things to do" is all done and we can head off on our adventure to England and Italy and our cruise as well.
