Embroiderer's Guild Exhibition

Sue and I visited the Embroiderer's guild exhibition on Friday. It was a really lovely display. I especially liked the WW1 displays of lovely old embroideries stitched in the early 1900s. I didn't get any photos of those. I am not sure I am really allowed to show you these ones but here goes. It is always inspiring to see all the lovely hand made items.

One of my favourite displays was this amazing band sampler which is huge and has the most amazing variety of embroidery. It also has many of the important events in the owner's life and also events that have occurred at different times around the world. This picture tells you about the making of the band sampler.

Classes and the Embroiderer's Guild Exhibition

Classes started again last week and it was great to catch up with all the ladies again. Karen has been working on her BOMs and has done a wonderful job. Here is her own centre for the My Town quilt. Hasn't she done a great job?

 She has also been working on this beautiful quilt and has finished four more blocks!

 Paddy and I went to the Embroiderer's Guild Exhibition on Friday and there were so many beautiful pieces on display. Here are just a few.

More beautiful embroidery

Here are a few more lovely pieces from the Embroiderer's Guild exhibition. This is a beautiful box with hardanger or counted thread work on the top.

This little tree is decorated with the loveliest beaded decorations. They were designed and made by Jenny Bradford.

This is some amazing machine embroidery with a painted background.

As Floriade is on at the moment in Canberra (though it is raining and quite chilly for it today), it was lovely to see these embroideries done on photographs and embroidered with ribbon and thread to give a fabulous 3 dimensional affect. Sorry about the reflections.

After the display, we went to the Hyatt and had coffee and cake, which was very good.

Embroiderer's Guild Exhibition

Last Friday, Penny and I went to the Embroiderer's Guild Exhibition here in Canberra. There were some wonderful pieces on show. Such clever stitchers. We took some photos and didn't realise that it wasn't permitted till after the we had taken them! Oh well, it is nice to be able to share them with you. This piece of hardanger was stitched by my clever friend, Gwen. She is so clever at counting!!!! (not like me)

This was one of my favourite pieces. There is so much beautiful stitching on this lovely bag . It even has little bags, like a glasses' case, all stitched to match.

Another wonderful embroidery was this scene. So much exquisite stitching.

I have a few more pictures to show you tomorrow of this exhibition. I have been stitching recently and have been making up the class samples for Anni Downes' book, The World as it Should Be. I have also been busy getting the Christmas class samples stitched. I hope to have them up at the shop next week. I will take some photos soon to share.
