Caen, Beuvron-en-Auge, Honfleur and Crevecour-en-Auge

On Sunday we wandered around Caen before having dinner. It has quite an interesting history as William the Conqueror had a castle in the city and he and his wife, Matilda, are buried there. We looked into the Abbaye des Hommes where William is buried.

 On Monday, 17th April, we drove to a gorgeous little village called Beuvron-en-Auge. It is a tiny village with lots of half timbered houses and a lovely little cafe with yummy coffee.

 We then drove the slow way all along the coast towards Bonfleur. Stopped to check out the windy beach and these lovely houses.

 Honfleur is another gorgeous place to visit and really looks like Holland! We loved seeing the outside and inside of the very old timber church too.

We then headed to Crevecour-en-Auge and enjoyed visiting this medieval farm and castle. Lots of information here too about our friend, William the Conqueror. 

Mont St Michel and St Malo

On Saturday, 15th April, we drove to Mont St Michel. It was wonderful to see this amazing place. We walked up the hill and went inside the Abby which was very interesting. I still can't get over how old everything is here in Europe.

 In the afternoon we caught the local bus into town for another delicious dinner. This colourful band was playing as we came into St Malo.

The next day we organised to catch up with Barbara and Bruce from Canberra. We didn't even realise that we were overlapping in St Malo. It was fun to chat to them about home and our holidays.

 We went for a walk with them and Barbara showed me the street where part of the book, All the Light we cannot see, was set. Barbara was reading it while in St Malo so she remembered the name.

That afternoon we left St Malo and headed to Caen for our last few days in France.

Le Mans and St Malo

On Friday 14th April, we left Tours and headed to St Malo. On the way we visited Le Mans for lunch and also looked at the Le Mans Cathedral and the old town.

We arrived in St Malo and walked into town (quite a way along the beach) and had a delicious galette meal and even had dessert! I wanted to visit St Malo as I so enjoyed the book, All the light you cannot see, and wanted to see the town.
